I think Americans know this, and probably PASSIVELY disagree with all the premeditated wars & chaos. but just don't LITERALLY care about it.. All this 'red scare' nonsense began when the establishment Dems wanted to replace Henry Wallace as VP in 1944. Henry Wallace, VP for FDR from 1940 – 1944 called for 'The Century of the Common Man'. Magazine Magnate Henry Luce preferred 'The American Century' (i.e. imperialism & American Exceptionalism).
FDR wanted to maintain close relations with the USSR, party because he knew that the two countries had the potential to have a long and dangerous 'cold war' and partly because the USSR suffered the brunt of the WWI fight against the Nazis, losing 20 million people, more than every other nation combined. Henry Wallace knew all the details of the various allied meetings (US , USSR & Britain), but the establishment Dems succeeded in replacing him with Harry Truman, who knew NOTHING about the meeting details (or the Atomic Bomb project, or anything else for that matter).
Truman met with FDR only twice before FDR died and they did not discuss any major policy in those two brief meetings. When Truman finally met with Stalin, he displayed an ill informed arrogance that probably cost the world decades of tension, fueled by hawks like the Dulles brothers and Curtis LaMey.
After WWII, the criminal Dulles brothers rose to prominence under Eisenhower. John Foster became Secretary of State and Allen Dulles became CIA director. Allen had a long history of betraying the US, running rat lines for Nazis to escape to Latin America; double dealing with Nazis in defiance of FDR's unconditional surrender pledge and other atrocities too long to list here.
The Dulles brothers both worked at high end law firm Sullivan and Cromwell representing big corporate interest, including Standard Oil and United Fruit. Both of these companies had major interests in Latin America and Iran.
The US and Britain have been messing with Iran since the end of WWI, when the Ottoman Empire fell and the West redrew the map of the Middle East without consulting the locals.
In 1941, Britain and the Soviet Union became so alarmed at the ruling Shah's pro Nazi leanings that they 'occupied' the country and forced the old Shah off the throne and replaced him with his son, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi; Shah Pahlavi quickly became very cozy with British and US oil interests, ultimately striking a deal where the British Oil Company (Anglo-Iranian Oil company – now BP) kept 84% of the profits, and the company paid no taxes or other compensation to the Iranians.
By 1950, the Iranians had had enough and managed to elected the democratic reformer prime minister Mossadegh, who nationalized Iranian oil and offered the oil companies fair compensation.
About the same time in Guatemala, the people elected Jacobo Arbenz, who also sought to improve the economic conditions of his people after decades of land and resource theft from United Fruit.
In 1953, the CIA under Allen Dulles (whose former law firm Sullivan and Cromwell – now a major donor to Cory Booker – represented the very oil companies with stakes in Iranian oil) overthrew the democratically elected prime minister Mossadegh and re-installed Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi on the throne so the west could keep profiting on Iranian Oil (see Operation Ajax, the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company – now BP, ARAMCO and Sullivan and Cromwell, or read 'The Devil's Chessboard' by David Talbot, 'A People's History of the United States' by Howard Zinn and/or 'The Untold History of The United States' by Peter Kuznick and Oliver Stone, which is also a documentary, most of the episodes available on YouTube).
Iran went from a budding Democracy to a repressive dictatorship all for US & British profit, until the Ayatollahs finally took power in 1979 after the more radical peons stormed the US embassy (the Iran Hostage Crisis).
When Eisenhower left office in 1960, he lamented that the Dulles brothers had left him a 'legacy of ashes'. Between all that, the US also witnessed McCarthy's self promotional read scare 'un-american activities hearings, along with propaganda from other hawks like the Luces, the Hearsts, DuPonts and others.
Between 1980 – 1988, Iraq and Iran were at war; the US funneled billions in arms to Saddam Hussein to fight the Iranians; meanwhile, the US also sold weapons to Iran
in a complex scheme to raise funds to wage another little (illegal) war in Nicaragua (see the Iran Contra scandal). The US was arming both sides in this bloody 8 year conflict.
Incidentally, the very weapons the US sold Saddam were the ones W and Cheney made such a big deal about to justify the 2003 invasion of Iraq, including the chemical weapons Saddam had used on the Kurds a decade before. I guess junior didn't get the memo from Poppy that he was instrumental in getting those weapons to Iraq in the first place, with the help of old buddy Donald Rumsfeld.
Then around 2010 – 2012 the NSA, with the help of Mossad managed to plant the Stuxnet virus into the motors that spun Iranian centrifuges, blowing them up.. until the virus got loose – 'in the wild', infecting PCs around the world (one of the pay channels – HBO, Showtime or Cinemax had a documentary special on this).
Around the same time Libya threatened to detach its monetary system form the US dollar; within a year, Gaddafi was dead, and now the place is a haven for warring terrorist factions, many whom the US armed over the years.
There are numerous other instances where the US and/or UK did messed up stuff to Iran (Iraq, Syria, Libya, Guatemala, Honduras, Venezuela, Haiti, Afghanistan, Congo, etc.) that we would never tolerate here, too many to list in a post.
One might come to the conclusion that maybe we created this mess in the first place – and now idiots like Bolton and Trump, instead of trying to maintain the deal reached under Obama, are now beating the war drums with a militant country armed to the teeth and a justifiable decades long grudge against the west.

The same thing happened in Iraq in 2003. Despite protestations that it was NOT about the oil, it most definitely was about the oil
(economics played a role as well – Saddam also explored ways of detaching the Iraqi currency from the US dollar). . Saddam was not a nice guy by any means, but the whole 'brutal dictator' mantra was a distraction. In fact, the US sold Saddam the very weapons Bush complained about; between 1980 – 1988, Iraq and Iran were at war; the US sold Iraq plenty of weapons, including chemical. The point man on the weapon sales was none other than Donald Rumsfeld. Ironically, the US was also selling weapons to Iran so they could use the money to arm the 'Contras' in Nicaragua – another story of how a country finally overthrew a dictatorship – in this case the Somoza family, who had been in power for 43 years. Again, the supplying of weapons to the contras had nothing to do with the new government being 'communists' or 'dictators'; it was to preserve business interests in Nicaragua. In fact, in every case, the new governments mentioned above immediately reached out to the US (despite their complicity in years or decades of repression), hoping to establish friendly ties with America. Some people are still convinced Iraq was not about the oil, but there is a city in the north full of skyscrapers with names like BP, Shell and Texaco on them. And Halliburton and Blackwater didn't do too bad either.

How can you use an expression like "soft on war" when war is a crime? How dumb/insane is it possible to become? The weapons manufacturers making weapons to kill humans with and other war profiteers are guilty of murder and crimes against humanity (they are conspiring to commit crimes hurting peoples' health and lives). It is ironic that US legislators, who use government debt as an excuse for fiscal austerity and "pay-go" social spending, are uncritical of the trillions poured into the nation's military. Is this because they know that government borrowing is essential to the survival of the financial elites who bankroll both parties? Without ever-growing government debt, the private banking system, and the ponzi scheme known as the US dollar, would collapse.

Those who profit from the weapons, those who are producing them, are planning deliberate muder (in the way they make them – it isn't legal to make weapons to kill people with because murder is murder), so yes, they are war criminals at the at the same level as those who use them.
