On December 21, 2023, Florida Highway Patrol trooper clocked a BMW coupe traveling at a dangerous 145 mph in Ft. Mayers, Florida.
When the trooper attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle refused to yield, initiating a pursuit.
Troopers initially refrained from using a PIT maneuver due to the high speeds and presence of other vehicles on the busy highway.
The chase continued with the BMW exceeding 120 mph.
Fortunately, a clear stretch of road allowed for a safe PIT maneuver. However, during the maneuver, the trooper’s vehicle lost control and ended up in a ditch.
Though shaken, the trooper was unharmed.
The BMW, despite sustaining damage that caused sparks to fly, continued driving for a short while before another trooper joined the pursuit.
This second trooper successfully executed a PIT maneuver, finally bringing the vehicle to a stop.
The BMW contained a female driver and a male passenger.
The driver, identified as 21-year-old Cecilia Elise Hoffman, attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. She exhibited signs of intoxication.
Following the pursuit, EMS personnel were called to the scene to assess her condition.
Later, a trooper took her to a local hospital for a more thorough check-up, where she was cleared by medical professionals.
She was then booked into Lee County Jail on charges of DUI, fleeing and eluding law enforcement, resisting without violence, and reckless driving.
