1. Don’t cry about you so called stresses and pretend that fear loss of life is the ultimate form of stress. When you get a job and anyone that gets a job should understand the “stress” that comes with it. You only have the right to call it stress when you’re not healthy and have to work or when the conditions are beyond reasonable control. Cops have guns, millions in technology, medical and other resources, a bunch of their buddy cops and the legal system on their side. For as many problems as you cause you deserve the stress. Maybe you should stop acting stupid and hire people that can do great things and make the right decisions with the money you get paid and those that manage you get paid. You have the nerve to say you’re stressed. When you’re part of the system that oppresses most people you don’t get to say you’re stressed. If you can’t do that job then maybe you should try one in the real world.

15. Speaking of stressed out cops what is the policy on the use of controlled substance prescriptions for anxiety for officers in general? (Such as xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, ect.) As long as an officer isn't "abusing" their medication, are they allowed to "mellow out" as long as it is prescribed and there are no visible signs of intoxication? Also what about prescription stimulants for that matter? (Adderall, Concerta, ect.)

Mike…The average citizen has NO IDEA… your joker in the pinned post…I did police explorer stuff and unlike the "new" generation of explorers we actually did some hands and also were ARMED… I saw dead bodies in burned out cars, I saw a D&D man beat on his wife and children… Helped do CPR on the drowning children… The really SHITTY things humans do to each other REALLY will get to you if you cannot compartmentalize it properly… (I wanted to edit: Everytime since those days, I Thank a cop, even if I got a Ticket, because yes I was caught speeding that day, and likely deserved the ticket 100 times over, but also, if I am involved in a Crash, they are also the ones who are going to try to keep me safe and conscious while waiting for the ambulance.)

    as soon as i turn 21only two more years left i'm going to become a police officer it's something I've always wanted to do and i don't see myself doing anything else besides this job i care about my community and I'm very passionate about this can't wait to get out there and protect and serve

If I push him at arms length and give verbal commands then he steps towards me again my reaction would be to punch him in self defence, if he came at me again I would restrain him until he calmed down and I could figure out what his intentions are.

25. Aside from the natural dangers of the job and the death, destruction and trauma cops face, there's a new danger they're facing more and more this day and time. It's the haters they have to listen to and deal with. They have to be threatened, cursed at, ridiculed and harassed on a daily/nightly basis and all they can do is remain calm. It's truly disgusting how certain members of society treat law enforcement now days. It's the dangers they face emotionally after they hear and see nothing but profound hate and negativity. That combined with the horrible images they see regularly and the constant high stress situations they're placed in has to be overwhelming for some. Law enforcement isn't for the faint of heart. Cops don't get anywhere near the respect they deserve and when someone does show them appreciation, they're called a "boot locker." What are these so called social justice warriors doing for their country or their communities? Absolutely nothing but spreading hate just like certain media outlets. Takes a special kind of human being to not just be a cop but survive emotionally as a cop. There should be more mental health services available to law enforcement and all first responders. Most officers will tell you how far a little appreciation will go now days. It isn't anywhere near as common as it used to be.

28. Please note that “Mike the Cop” was being PC not to alienate his followers that are not cops, I fully understand this. However the difference between those dangerous jobs he mentioned and being a police officer ( or the military in combat) is that there are people that purposely what to harm you. The non-cop jobs are dangerous due to accidents or mistakes on the workers part. A log or electrical wire doesn’t have a conscience to harm you. Therefore I make the case that being a police officer is the most dangerous job out there. Please show me an example of any other job when the worker was killed being idol. How many police officers have been targeted and killed just for wearing the uniform.

34. How can you compare the stolen bike to the loss of a child, in YOUR arms? The bike would take a VERY low ladder step in my day. God bless all first responders and military personnel. Thank you for your service regardless of the duration or "importance" of that service

35. I work in EMS, and I can say we go through all of the same. When we respond to domestic victims, or victims or assault, we put on body armor now. Some people even wear under shirt armor all shift. Because there have been so many calls where the subject is GOA when we arrive, police secure the scene and give us the okay to come in. But then the subject comes back with a knife, or gun, while we're trying to treat the victim. We're always looking over our shoulders, and being a little paranoid in our personal lives, because we've seen just how bad things can go. We're constantly under review, sometimes it just because they're seeing how they can improve the system, and how we respond. And others it's to make sure we're doing everything we're supposed to be doing, and following all the local protocols. And we respond to those same car accidents, those same SIDS cases, those same child abuse cases, those same calls where someone went to check on a family member and found them deceased. And it can be hard to switch gears going from something like that, to a call for someone with a rug burn on their knee. We don't want to minimize what this person feels. We want to be there, be supportive, and help this person. But our last call might be weighing us down a little. And we have the same ups and down. Some shifts, we'll go the entire shift just doing transports and little things. And other shifts, it's back to back overdoses, car accidents, heart attacks… etc. Then also add in the fact that we BARELY make more than fast food workers. So most of us have to work a ton of overtime, or second jobs, just to keep a roof over our heads and the lights turned on. As I'm sure you're aware, a lot of us become friends with the police officers we see all the time. And our co workers are more like family members than our actual families. Because to be honest, we can't talk to just anyone about the shit we go though. So we rely on each other.

36. They could go from trying to save a child's life that didn't make it to a Karen screaming at them, holding a cell phone in their face in less than an hour. Not to mention the stress within their department when management constantly has them under a microscope expecting perfection because the department doesn't want any negativity from the public. Sad thing is that these cities, agencies or whatever will throw an officer under the bus in a heartbeat the first time an offer shows signs of trauma from dealing with horror, violence, tragedy and the piss poor, entitled general public. Takes a special person to sustain a career as a police officer, especially this day and time.

38. Why is it so taboo for people to look at the cop and see something is wrong and take a second and ask! are you ok do you want to talk or give you some time to work it out ? Everyone and I mean everyone has their limits of what their brains can deal with and we are all different ! Show some respect and it will be greatly appreciated by the cop (person) in front of you !

39. My father was a deputy sheriff of a small town. He definitely had those days you’re talking about. One minute just sitting in a cruiser just trying to fight the boredom to having to gun it down the highway to a shooting and finding a child dying from a wound inflicted by her brother. It certainly aged him and I’ve seen how even today, 15 years after he retired he still scans the room, sits in a diner facing his car, and listens to his old scanner. He’s still in the mindset and never really seems to relax, but rather seems to space out then come back to reality. I must be an idiot because I’m trying to get into the same line of work myself. Even seeing what the job is, and trust me my dad told me a lot about the reality of it, I still want to go for it. I find it oddly calming when I see a hard situation because when ever that happened my dad was always very calm and collected and took charge of the situation and maybe it rubbed off on me. I don’t know. Anyway I hope I can make it through the academy and I hope I can do some good. Especially now in this year. Because I just don’t see myself content anywhere else.

42. It must take an enormous amount of self-control to be a police officer. People also have years to judge the shooting decisions you have to make in a fraction of a second. I've been watching Donut Operator and it gives me more empathy for cops. I can't believe how many people are incapable of seeing things from a different perspective though.

43. I don’t care what you think is the most dangerous job but by far it’s law enforcement and even more dangerous is a combative MOS in military even if your at the FOB you can still get mortared down, military and law enforcement
