Buffalo, N.Y. — The Buffalo Police Department on Wednesday released body camera footage from one of the body cameras worn by officers who shot a man armed with a knife on Hertel Avenue. The 30-year-old man, identified as Dominique Thomas, was apparently having a mental health crisis. The video shared by Buffalo Police was from the body camera of Officer Michael Ramos. It begins with at least three officers including Ramos in the stairwell of a Hertel Avenue apartment building. They were responding to a call that someone was threatening to kill someone around 4:30 a.m. Monday. They repeatedly asked him to put down the knife. As the situation made its way outside, Thomas refused to put down the weapon and eventually charged at officers. Two officers fired repeatedly, bringing Thomas down in the street. The video shows Dominique Thomas being shot multiple times, you can hear 10 gunshots. The officers immediately went to help Thomas and had called an ambulance ahead of time. Police say Thomas, remains in serious but stable condition at Erie County Medical Center.

  1. I have no problem with shooting someone armed with a knife, but again… 6 or 7 shots AFTER he's down? C'mon now. Cops are out of control.

  2. To answer the highly educated church going man's question too WHY. You ran at cops with a knife. Just because Jobama is president and stealing is basically legal, running at a cop with a weapon is not. Next time use a fake 20 to pay for something and you'll be deemed a hero. End of rant.

  9. The officers did everything right here, the only thing that was a little excessive was the amount of shots, the officer continued firing even after he’d hit the ground, I don’t know how on earth he’s still alive.

  16. This cop is trying to do good in the community. Trying to change things around and make it safe for all. He hated doing that. Usually I have no problem with officers taking out someone but he brought it home, Painful.

  22. It's sad that police activity has to pause the video 5 times on the knife just to appease what could be an angry mob who see's skin color over a 6 to 8 inch blade on the suspects hand.

    Yah. I'd probably be having a mental crisis too if my parents name me Dominique. Guess the doctors got the gender wrong and the parents decided to run with it (or maybe they just hated him) ?

  28. There got to be a better weapon and solution to bring these knife wielders down.
    People are dropping like flies. Why not try a spear? A bow? a lasso? Rocks? A bo staff?
    Tower shields? A bola? Dane axe? All of them would be less-lethal than the guns.
    And now im talking medieval measures.Can't we find something bettet in present time?
