Veteran Lieutenant Pete Underthun was on his way into work Tuesday morning, driving down I-94 near Rogers with light snow flurries settling on the slick roadway when he saw motorist lose control of his vehicle and start spinning. The car slid off the road at high speed into the median catch cables, then was flung across all lanes and onto the shoulder.
Underthun quickly called for backup then turned around and drove up on the scene to assist, parking his police cruiser a number of yards back from the crash scene with his lights rolling. A good samaritan had already stopped to render assistance. The three men were standing on the shoulder in what should have been a safe situation when the Lieutenant looked up and saw a box truck skidding on the snowy interstate, headed directly towards them.
The men scrambled as the driver of the box truck wrestled the wheel for control and swerved to the right, missing Underthun’s squad car by mere inches as it sped by on the highway shoulder.
Lieutenant Underthun says one of the men began breaking for the ditch before he yelled to call him back behind the parked vehicles. The truck sped by the three men on the shoulder, barely missing them. The Lieutenant believes that man would have been killed by the oncoming truck had he not been called back. The truck driver pulled over just past the scene, believing he would be cited, but Underthun waved him on, not wanting to create a situation that would be even more dangerous.

And he didn't even exit his truck to ensure that nobody got injured
This is why traffic stops should be conducted on the shoulder and not in the lane of traffic.
On the shoulder!
Near miss…? What does that mean? Sounds like they tried to avoid a collision and almost did but not totally. They nearly missed the collision but failed to avoid it completely.
Maybe no one let him merge or probably weather condition? I like how people assumed texting and driving lol.

Yikes! Scary.
That box truck driver was NOT paying attention to the road. How do you miss police lights? He should have been ticketed.
