Deputies Use PIT Maneuver To Stop 78-year-old Wrong Way DUI Driver

Oldsmar, Florida — On August 25, 2022 just after 1:00AM, Deputies with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office were monitoring traffic along SR580 in Oldsmar when they spotted 78-year-old Virginia Smith, of Oldsmar, driving eastbound in the westbound lanes. After several failed attempts, deputies stopped Smith’s car using a Precision Immobilization Technique or “PIT” Maneuver. Smith was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence. She was held in the Hillsborough County jail without bond.

  4. Not only drunk but most likely lack of intelligence. 1) you see all cars going to opposite direction 2) police cars following you and screaming at you to pull over 3) you keep going like nothing happens. I mean, cmon lady. I do believe she should be charged with more than a DUI
