Here is something you don’t see every day. A Florida Highway Patrol trooper pulls a U-turn across a highway median, accelerating to more than 140 mph to catch up with a vehicle going 20 over.
Impressively (if not a bit recklessly) the trooper catches up with the vehicle he was pursuing, and that vehicle’s driver decides to pull over to the left, stopping in the center median of the divided highway.
One thing 142 mph reliably does to a car’s engine is heat it up. A lot. And that center median? It was covered in dry grass.
You know what happens next. And now you can see it.

Update: Colonel Gene S. Spaulding, director of the Florida Highway Patrol, released the following statement:
“The Florida Highway Patrol is committed to public safety and troopers must balance the need to quickly intercept unsafe drivers while using due care to conduct traffic enforcement activities. In this instance, FHP immediately reviewed the incident and assigned additional training to the responding trooper [Bryan Zegers] on May 1, 2018, to improve overall public safety.â€Â
Never park a hot car over or in dry grass
Why he didn’t remove all of his important personal belongings especially his guns and ammo is beyond me, because he certainly had plenty of time to safely remove them. He just kinda panicked and didn’t have any common sense, the smartest guy decision he made that day was letting the driver go. Firefighters in Florida really do earn their keep because It doesn’t take much to start a fire there, especially in the South Florida because it’s so dry down there that just using a weed eater or putting out a cigarette can start a fire.
He will be commended for this and the department will talk about how he risked his life to keep the public safe. Get his picture taken and everyone will comment "thank you for all you do, glad your safe"
All for being a fuckin dumbass.
That was a very bad day for him.
The entire video demonstrates why law enforcement should have to spend more time learning about life than costing tax payers more money.
BARNY FIFE VOICE. " ANDY !!!!!! ANNNNNDDDYYYY!!!
..2nd unit comes by, they have no working extinguisher either.. Too funny.
How in fuck does a highway patrol not have at least one functional extinguisher?
I feel a bit sorry for the trooper,
but I just can't stop laughing ROFL
PURE COMEDY, tax money well spent
The link you left in today's (June 1 2021) to this video takes you out of the app and to the web.
Kinda sucks when using a phone
Download the Waze app to tracking traffic
The catalytic converter got hot. As soon as you see the fire MOVE THE F-ING CAR ON TO ASPHALT! Save the damn car!
This guy is not the smartest under the sun… 😉
I didn't realize Glock was making ammunition, LOL.
If he would have just pulled his car to the opposite shoulder he could have saved his car. Common sense is not so common anymore.
This cop should be fired he could have killed someone.
Where is the trucker when you need one they always got a fire extinguisher. And it should always be charged.
what an idiot………first thing i said when i saw him pulling over, watch the grass and hot exhaust🙄
I’m glad this was the result of his poor decisions and not a traffic accident where people got hurt or killed.
One dumd cop 😂
What a stupid police officer! Ha
That is fâ€â€Ã¢â‚¬â€Ã¢â‚¬â€ridiculous!! You should be penalized for putting all those people in harms way Police officer! Pisses me off.
" I don't like doing that but I don't do it often" followed by " I smell smoke" funny as hell! I wonder how much they made on that ticket?
Only YOU can prevent wild fires. Kinda ironic, ain’t it? Smokey.
And that's why you only drive diesel vehicles through dry grass!
Hot exhaust pipes and tall dry grass are a bad combination.
Cat got too hot, dry grass….ðŸâ€Â¥Ã°Å¸â€Â¥
Fire extinguishers have INSTRUCTIONS PRINTED ON THE F-ING LABEL!!!!
PULL PIN, AIM NOZZLE, SQUEEZE TRIGGER!
It's not a mystery how they work, dude.
if our country's finest aren't smart enough to get away from fire…. we need to start over !
Wait til the flames are higher and the car is completely engulfed to get your stuff out. This isn't nearly stupid enough yet.
“I’m gonna bury the needle in the red to catch up to this marker light violation and then park my car in the dry grass median on a hot Floridian dayâ€Â
Just take your seat and… Move the car!
Was this Trooper a rookie?
That’s the best of the best of the best too
"Suddenly the grass starts to catch on fire real quick." It's almost like this trooper had no idea about what is under a car, the hazards of parking on grass, or that he himself caused the fire. All he had to do was immediately move the car off the grass to save it and his precious wallet, keys and computer. To top it off, that driving of his was highly suspect and unnecessarily risky. And who knows what trail of fire he left all across the median when he pulled that U-turn? Not the brightest bulb on the tree.
Exhaust must have been cherry red lmao
Barney FIfe junior
Why didn't they just pull over to the right shoulder? The fire would have never started.
This guy has absolutely no common sense. Move the car away and put it on concrete.
