The Milwaukee Police Department has released dash cam and body cam footage related to an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 4800 block of North 51st Boulevard during the early morning hours of Thursday, December 7th, 2023. At approximately 3:17 a.m., while in the 8700 block of West Silver Spring Drive, officers spotted a vehicle wanted in connection to a nonfatal shooting.

Additional officers deployed a tire deflation device around North 68th Street and West Hampton Avenue at 2:47 a.m., effectively disabling the stolen vehicle. However, the pursuit continued, with speeds reaching 80 miles per hour. The chase eventually concluded when the driver lost control and crashed in the area of North 52nd Street and West Hampton Avenue at 2:58 a.m.

Following the crash, officers continued the pursuit on foot, chasing the suspects into a fenced-in backyard with heavy brush in the 4800 block of North 51st Boulevard at 3:45 a.m. Despite repeated verbal commands instructing the armed suspect to drop the weapon, he did not comply.
In this tense situation, both officers discharged their service weapons multiple times at 3:58 a.m., striking the suspect. The gunfire caused the suspect to drop his weapon.
Following the discharge of firearms, officers persistently issued verbal commands to both suspects. Specifically, they directed one of the two suspects, who was standing, to come forward and surrender. This particular suspect complied with the command. Despite sustaining minor injuries from the encounter, the compliant suspect was taken into custody.
After being apprehended, the injured suspect was removed from the immediate area, receiving medical attention from officers.
officers then performed a tactical approach, secured
the firearm located next to the second suspect and placed him under arrest.
Subsequently the investigation revealed that the firearm recovered was identified as a Glock 21 Gen 4, 45 caliber semi-automatic firearm.
