Louisville, Kentucky — On Friday, May 10th, 2024, shortly before 11:00 p.m., LMPD 3rd Division Officers were dispatched to a home in the 4700 block of Crawford Avenue on a report of a theft. The caller, 43-year-old Nicholas Pierce also stated to emergency call takers that he was armed with a knife. When officers arrived at the home, they encountered Pierce coming out of the house armed with a large knife. Officers gave repeated commands to drop the knife, but Pierce refused. Instead, he advanced on the officers, and he charged at the officers with the large knife in his hand while also appearing to give commands to his dog to attack the officers, as well.
As Pierce continued towards the officers, they deployed tasers which had limited effect. Three LMPD officers discharged their firearms and Pierce proceeded to charge at them again with the large knife remaining in his hand. Pierce continued holding them at bay with the knife preventing officers from rendering immediate aid. Ultimately, they were able to disarm him and perform medical aid. Medics transported Pierce to University of Louisville Hospital where he died from his injuries on Sunday, May 12th, 2024.
