Los Angeles, California  On June 2, 2023, around 11:15 a.m., Wilshire Area patrol officers received a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon suspect at the medical offices in the 5900 block of Venice Boulevard. As officers arrived, they observed the suspect, later identified as Uriah Sanders, holding an approximate four-foot spiked lawn edger in his hands. Officers ordered Sanders, who appeared to be suffering from a mental illness, to drop the edger, however Sanders failed to comply. Additional units, a supervisor, a Mental Evaluation Unit, and a less lethal beanbag shotgun were requested. A tactical plan was formulated to take Sanders into custody.
Throughout the 30-minute interaction with Sanders, officers made several attempts to gain his voluntary compliance. Without warning, Sanders began walking towards the officers while armed with the spiked edger. Officers advised Sanders that a less lethal beanbag shotgun would be used if he did not stop, and he failed to comply. Sanders continued towards the officers which resulted in one officer discharging a single beanbag shotgun round, striking Sanders in the upper right chest. Sanders fell to the ground and was taken into custody without further incident. Sanders was taken inside the hospital at that location and was treated for a bruised lung, pulmonary contusion and two rib fractures. Due to Sanders injuries, he was admitted into the hospital. No officers or other citizens were injured during the incident.

The bean bag actually worked! 🎉🎉
We really need to open the mental institutions in this country again. People like this need to be in a care facility not out on the street.
That’s sad to see. He needs metal help. A world like this shouldn’t have this. It just makes me sad.
Kudos for a non lethal exchange ! And maybe he will get help for what issues he may have .ðŸ˜Å
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Man that fool needs to keep to his grass cutting’not being a cu nt fool as 🎉
Should've used buckshot
I hope this mans mind gets made well. Very sad to see people like this. The USA has money for illegal immigrants and foreign wars, but not for veterans and mentally ill people.
The officers did a good job here, but lets not act like every department has this funding and training, most poice are doing the best with what they have. Also stay away from drugs
He is just down on his luck. All he needs is some affordable housing, a place to sleep inside.
10:07 Separate feet !! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, .. NICE DAY, ISNT IT? Are you enjoying your criminal life ? sorry to arrest you, We are so ashamed of arresting dirty criminals like you. Have a nice day riding with us !! Why so much courtesy and niceties with a dirty animal ? Show force, not weakness. Creep laught at nice people. They rob them.
Was a helicopter really necessary?
Don’t worry ya’ll they will release dude the next morning.
Was it really necessary to have so many officers and a helicopter for a man with a sick?
Think they found the weakest criminal in history
The caller identified the suspect as an “African American.†I’m white. What would she call me? 🤷ðŸÂ»â€Â♂ï¸Â
Now THAT was a good dispatcher. If the caller is giving info right off the bat, take the info down and then ask questions.
beats on door to get into hospital. ends up in hospital
Need to bring back the stocks and pillory, post the guy in stocks in front of the building he was at for a month
Really can’t classify that thing as human.
hey Im glad they didnt do a mag dump on the guy, all of them.
I mean, not every encounter has to be escalated to deadly…
Great job, guys. Proud of you!
OMG I'm dying! English is not my first language and when I saw the title I thought "how the heck will the police use a beanbag to stop someone?" since in my mind a beanbag it's one of those you sit on. 😂😂😂
So the difference in LAPD and Arkansas State Police is that the guy would have gotten about one warning to drop the weapon, then it would have been over. They spent over 20 minutes telling him to drop the weapon . Too bad their hands are so tied that it takes THAT long to be able to act!
Can we appreciate this caller? Super super helpful.
Dude rambling had me dying 🤣
Wonder why they blurred out a whole fuckin building that has a 30 foot limo in front of it? Illuminati?
Mental health problems are so sad. Thank you for using the 40. I hope this man gets the help he desperately needs.
good job lapd. never thought i would say that but that was very smooth.
