LAKE WORTH, Texas — A Denton County motorcyclist rider Dustin Bates filed a federal lawsuit Monday, Jan. 24 against a former Lake Worth police department officer Jonathan Granado alleging the officer ran him over while the man was running away on Feb. 23 November 2020.

The officer initially reported the motorcycle’s license plate was hard to read but managed to run it through dispatch and learned the number on the plate didn’t match the bike.

After the light turned green, Lake Worth police department dashcam video shows the officer turning on his lights to try to pull the rider over but instead of stopping the rider accelerated at high speed and cut-through traffic to try to get away.

It turned out the motorcycle was not stolen, but he was in possession of half an ounce of methamphetamine and had a parole warrant out for his arrest.

The chase didn’t last long as the fleeing rider Bates wrecked the motorcycle and ran across a field.

Lake Worth police department Chief Manoushagian said in a press conference (include in the video) addressing the law suit today Tuesday January 25 that Officer Granado left the roadway but applied the brakes on wet grass and slid until he collided with Bates.

Chief Manoushagian said Bates was not run over. He was struck as the officer was traveling around 45 miles per hour.

According to the lawsuit, the collision fractured Bates’ spine, three ribs, and his right leg in two places. Bates’ attorney said he had to undergo surgery “and has permanent scarring as a result of Officer Granado’s unnecessary use of deadly force.” said attorney Scott Parker.

“This is a blatant, flagrant attempt to mow down a person on foot,” said attorney Scott Parker.

  1. guys guys, you dont understand he committed a traffic violation and ran, thats why the cop was justified to hit him with a car and potential kill or disable him for life. its just like shooting a running suspect in the back perfectly justified…

by the way, i hate federal government power and love freedom, don't tell me this is ironic

  2. . Notice how he voluntarily resigned from the force after the investigation. he knew deep down it wasn’t an accident and was lucky to get away with I it. Guilt and Fear that he wouldn’t be able to control himself in a future similar situation of excessive force caused him to leave the force. I support the police and have friends and family in the force but this is excessive and was wrong.

I’m not defending the criminal, he should be punished, but in a way that is appropriate to the crime that was committed. That’s how a civilized society operates.

  3. For once I hope the “criminal” wins that cash payout, this is FOUL!

Ps: “the officer wasn’t trying to hit the suspect” as he steered towards the suspect intentionally

  4. @8:50 – I think you can be pretty safe in knowing he didnt sprint at that speed with a serious leg injury. He 100% got the injury from the cop slamming into him with his truck. How can we be sure? Well, he wasnt able to sprint off after being struck but he was able to sprint off after crashing.

  5. If the guy never ran none of that would've happened, rather the cop did it purposely or did it by accident so regardless the motorcyclist should blame himself. But seeing the hit in slow mo 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆

  6. ( 6:12 ) The officer applied the breaks but he clearly didn't apply them with the intentions of stopping. He intentionally hit this man with his vehicle and then applied the breaks to stop and that BULLSHHHHH!T about where your eyes go your steering wheel follows, LOL , come on man, I'd like to see a fair jury hear that shhhh!t as the officers excuse for his actions shown here. Why don't they just tell the truth, The officer hit the man because he was fleeing arrest. A jury would respect that a whole lot more than that sorry made up after the fact excuse that yhall just came up with.

  7. I can’t blame anybody running from the police in today’s society especially after how they acted during the protest in 2020. Why are they saying he didn’t run over him does he have to go under the car my gosh.

  8. Support the police…..but not to the point of abuse. The ram wasn’t justified it was excessive force to say the least.
