Stockton, California — On April 12, 2024, at approximately 9 p.m., Officers responded to a business in the 5700 block of Pacific Ave regarding an armed robbery. Officers learned the suspect entered the business while wearing a ski mask, presented a handgun, and demanded money. He was described as an adult male wearing a black ski mask and a dark-colored jacket. The suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Javion Holmes, fled with the money prior to police arrival. Officers arrived moments later and began canvassing the surrounding areas. Shortly after, dispatch received reports of a prowler in the 400 block of W. Swain Rd who was trying to hide under vehicles and possibly get into residences.

Officers established a perimeter and continued to search the block. With the assistance of UAS (drone) and SPD helicopter (FALCON1-0), Officers located Holmes hiding in a backyard of a residence in the 400 block of W Longview Ave (one block to the North of the business). Officers utilized the vehicles’ and helicopter’s PA systems to order Holmes out of the backyard. Officers performed K-9 announcements with a Stockton PD K-9 but to no avail. After numerous attempts, Holmes refused all commands and opportunities to comply. Officers requested medical staff to stage as they formed an arrest team and made their way into the backyard. They located Holmes hiding deep into the yard behind some debris in a narrow walkway.

He again refused to comply with the Officers’ orders. He told the Officers that he had a gun while covering his hands with an article of clothing. Officers ordered him yet again to show his hands and drop the gun. Holmes extended his hands out in front of him toward the Officers as to simulate pointing a gun and ran at the Officers. One Officer utilized a less-than-lethal shotgun in an attempt to subdue Holmes. Then another Officer utilized a firearm. Holmes was struck at least once and fell to the ground. Officers immediately provided medical aid until AMR transported Holmes to an area hospital where he is in critical condition. During the investigation, Police found a Glock-style replica handgun, and a sum of money believed to belong to the business.
