Sheldon, Illinois — On September 1, 2024, the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police, Newton County Indiana Sheriff’s Department and the Kentland Indiana Police Department responded to the report of an alleged kidnapping in progress regarding a vehicle driven by a suspect, 37-year-old Andrew Roselius, of Ashkum, Illinois. Roselius’ vehicle was identified in rural Iroquois County and officers at the scene tried to stop the vehicle. Officers attempted to stop Roselius’ vehicle in rural Iroquois County, but he fled, crossing into Indiana and back into Illinois, where he collided with another vehicle near the Village of Sheldon.

The situation escalated when law enforcement surrounded Roselius’ vehicle, repeatedly instructing him to show his hands and exit the car. Reports indicated that Roselius ignored these commands and instead pulled out a revolver, firing a shot that struck Newton County Deputy Corporal Brandon Schreiber in the head. In response, an Iroquois County Deputy returned fire, hitting Roselius in the head, leading to his death at the scene. No hostage was found in his car. Schreiber was taken to Carle Hospital in Urbana in critical condition. He died there 10 days later on Sept. 11.

The Illinois State Police conducted a thorough investigation into the shooting and submitted their findings to the Iroquois County State’s Attorney’s Office. State’s Attorney Jim Devine later ruled the shooting as justified, stating that no further legal action would be taken.

  2. So if they go in guns blazing like trigger happy cowboys some people demonize the cops but if they wait too long and try to give the guy a chance some will say the police are too soft. You can't win sometimes if you're a cop these days….

  3. Unbelievable how long they let this guy reaching all around in his vehicle. In the meantime, the police officers were worrying more about "lease lethal" than addressing this guy who eventually took a police officers life.

  4. We see the same stuff, criminals, carjackers, ect, and it's not a real mystery what happened, they just weren't going back to prison. But everything I see about this guy means he just snapped or something. Was a first responder and farmer, who was being pursued for an alleged kidnapping but no one was in the truck with him. Mental illness I guess? Why would a guy who is supposedly a stand up guy decide to shoot at the cops? Makes no sense. All he had to do was point if he wanted to do a suicide by cop.

  5. This is so disgusting that police feel they need to coddle felons so as not to get in legal trouble. At least this is one felon that cannot be put back into society by a liberal judge.

  6. My God I was thinking the same thing!!!! They gave him enough time to read a paper and then some!!!! Sorry for the Deputy that lost his life – Unreal amount of crazies running around!!

  7. And youtube, stop FUCKING deleting my comments. Freedom of speech is a thing.

This is why you don't give criminals so many chances. The moment the criminal refused to comply with commands, it was time for swiz cheese. And not time for less lethal and playing other stupid games.

Youtube, stop deleting my comments. Freedom of speech is a thing.

I'm not saying anything different from what other people have say, why I'm being targeted but not them? Stop deleting my comments. Is stupid that I have to post several times till I manage to post a comment. One's should not have to post and wait to see if the comment is deleted or not.
