On March 26, 2023, Deputy Rainey of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office conducted a routine traffic stop on a vehicle that was speeding at 73 mph in a 60-mph zone. Little did Deputy Rainey know that this seemingly routine stop would uncover a significant drug trafficking operation.
As Deputy Rainey approached the vehicle, he immediately detected the strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside. To make matters worse, the driver failed to provide a valid driving permit, raising suspicions further. Concerned about the situation, Deputy Rainey requested the driver and the two occupants to step out of the vehicle for further investigation.
A thorough search was conducted on all individuals, and it was during this process that Deputy Rainey discovered a shocking find. One of the male occupants was found in possession of a substantial amount of cash amounting to $1,568. Even more alarming, a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance was discovered on his person. Subsequent testing confirmed the substance to be cocaine, weighing between 28 grams and 150 kilograms.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Deputy Rainey promptly placed the individual under arrest. The suspect was charged with Possession of Cocaine – Trafficking, a serious offense that carries severe legal consequences. He was then transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility to await further proceedings.
However, the story doesn’t end there. During the transportation to the detention facility, the arrested individual unleashed a barrage of insults and offensive language towards Deputy Rainey. Despite the verbal assault, Deputy Rainey remained professional and focused on ensuring the safety and security of all involved.
The suspect was later released after posting a $25,000 bond, pending his upcoming court appearance.
