On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 10:11 p.m., Philadelphia Police responded to a shooting on the 800 block of North 40th Street in the 16th District.
Upon arrival, officers located 36-year-old Terrell Jones, of the 1200 block of North Ringgold Street, inside a candy store with multiple gunshot wounds. Medics from the Philadelphia Fire Department arrived and pronounced him deceased at 10:24 p.m. A second individual, who was both a shooting victim and an offender, was located on the 700 block of Preston Street with gunshot wounds to the arm and chest. He was transported to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Terrell Jones was inside the candy store when two male offenders attempted to rob him. One of the offenders fired at Jones, fatally wounding him. Jones managed to return fire at the suspects.
The offenders fled in a blue vehicle, which later collided with a SEPTA bus near 41st and Brown Streets. The suspects then fled on foot. However, a 17-year-old offender was found on the 700 block of Preston Street with gunshot wounds to his arm and chest.
