Gang City Marseille: The War On Drugs | Witness | HD Crime Mafia Police Documentary

In Marseille, gangs wage a merciless war to control the drug market. The economic stakes are enormous. Drug trafficking generates more than thirty million euros per month and is woven throughout the local economy. Real estate investments, money laundering, luxury boutiques, sports clubs, beauty salons; all sectors benefit. The drug trade has slowly taken over the city of Marseille.

For several months, we followed the men of the Marseille police, the Anti-Narcotics Office, and the specialised squads who work to disrupt the drugs trade. There are about two hundred points of sale for illegal drugs in the heart of the city, some of which generate as much as 100,000 euros per day. The Marseille police are committed to dismantling that network. In the first half of 2021 alone, police arrested 8,000 drug traffickers. 60% of them had weapons, often weapons of war.

These gangs have transformed the northern neighbourhoods of Marseille into crime empires. To understand how the organisations work, we met some of their members. They belong to very hierarchical structures, managed like legitimate companies. But death is never far away, and among the long list of casualties, there are many innocent people. For families who have lost a loved one, the pain is interminable. They are collateral victims of an increasingly bloody gang war in Marseille.

This film was first released in 2021.

  1. Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"

Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ."

Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"

Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?…"

Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"

Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."

Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."

Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"

  2. Why so blurred out. !!!!
Could be watching Tom and Jerry chasing each other here. Can’t see what’s going on! May aswell sell the story as a book cos the film is pointless.

  3. Youtube is getting worse than the FCC…. The mention of drugs, sex and violence will get you censored… It's irritating… We're here to watch a documentary, based on facts while learning about stuff and YouTube blocks everything.

  4. Those first 2 dealer's bust in the first 13 minutes. 2 to 4 yrs only. What a joke. This problem is created by politicians. Crime is encouraged by politicians. It clearly serves as a means to assist in reaching their ultimate agenda & using complete destabilization of communities.

  5. Thats what you get with immigrants from warzones their psychological thinking for many has no boundaries but when will EU learn from its mistakes. We need to help the country of the immigrants with a good fraudless structure but we didnt and now its to late and will take a few decades to fix the problems due to our soft democracy. We need to think ahead of time before thinks start happening and when it happens take direct actions instead of waiting talking getting votes losing 2 years to ge through and at that time the problem shifted so they solution of the problem 2 years ago. Their need some big political change with smart people in the politics instead of Man / Woman in suits argueing like little kids gtting paid by lobbiest / advocate for company interests lying and blaming to get something trough. This politics not working anymore in this time where everything is going alot faster then 100 years ago.

  6. If the police are dealing with a killing spree due to gang violence they will be on edge so would anyone. No one person is perfect no matter how well you are trained, shit happens and nothing will ever change that. But we can fix your youth and make an effort to make sure they don’t end up in these looser gangs.

  7. If you're going to blur out three-quarters of the entire documentary what the hell's the point in even airing it? Stopped watching after 10 minutes.

  8. This video is no good if you are going to blur most of the video, so it is impossible to see anything, and if it is YouTube policy, why would you even bother to upload this video.

  9. Yet another illustration that drug legalization and decriminalization is more effective at saving lives, more humane, and also, less expensive.
