While much attention has been paid to Republican-backed tax cuts for the wealthiest, a new report reveals that even local levies take a greater share of income from the poor than the rich

  1. Did this Dillion Grundmans particular study look into “travel taxes” to coin a term, such as bridge and tunnel tolls and their impact on these populations. New York and Long Island commuting would be a great example. Thanks

  2. What makes property taxes regressive is the fact that its not a land value tax. There is nothing "progressive" about taxing improvements to land. U are taxing renters.

  3. This is just more trickle down economics, something we desperately need to get rid of ASAP if the middle class and economy are to have a chance of getting healthy.

  4. The American Revolution is not over, we are still in the battle that instigated the origin of our Great war. Tax revolt in a nutshell. The civil war is not over either, by the way. We the people are the lion in the ring with the crazy dude with a whip and chair, daring us to rise to our full might and fury. ShakeUp

  5. There is little awareness because states like CA and NY live in perpetual fear of residents fleeing for low (or no) tax states. Despite the slightly misleading argument that low tax states increase inequalities, they didn't mention that California has a poor k-12 school system despite having some of the highest taxes in America, whereas New Hampshire is one of the top states for education despite no income, sales, capital gains tax.

  6. We really don't need to be reminded that the poor pays more taxes than the rich…we know that already!
We need solutions to fixing that Injustice!

  7. The mainstream media doesn't report on this because they are all in the higher tax bracket and do not want to see a fair system. They are scamming the American people by censoring this information by not reporting on it. These mainstream media outlets need to be sued for fraud and censorship. This is the only way they will be compelled to do their job. Also, the mainstream media corporations may be enjoying tax exemption for their "service" to the society in reporting the news. This should be exposed. We at least need regular reports on how much if any taxes these corporations pay. I have tried to find this information but it is not easy, which makes it even more important. The fact that news reporters like Rachel Maddow are paid thirty-five thousand dollars EVERY DAY, should become viral. Research that one. Love your channel, thanks for your real news.

  8. You know what? I ran business for the last 6 years and I came to the conclusion that rich people are rich because they found a way to avoid paying the Tax.

  9. Really? We paid $12, 000 in healthcare, and another 40,000 in additional property taxes and income taxes. That doesn’t include sales tax. Everyone is paying WAY to much in taxes. Stop blaming the rich and start blaming the government for stealing our money and wasting it.

  10. Very good report! I really learned something very useful about state taxation, and I sincerely hope people make more of an issue about it. There is too much focus only on national taxes and affairs when state and local matters not only have substantial impact on people but are also more easily able to be affected by grassroots democracy if only people knew and cared.

  11. You're talking about state and local taxes. With federal income taxes, the lower 1/2 of earners pay essentially no taxes at all, while the only group that pays net taxes (tax payments minus the cost of government services received) are the upper 10% of earners. If it were not for state and local taxes, the bottom 1/2 would pay no taxes at all. That's not good for society. EVERY income group should pay something so that they all have skin in the game. It's easy to vote for more expensive government when you are spending somebody else's tax payments but not your own.

  12. Our $ is not a commodity. ..it is a unit of account.

Our deficit is the asset for Us. The economy

Our debt is merely all the cash that has not yet been taxed.

IE….saving / checking accounts investment. …cash in our pockets

  13. Taxes drive the currency and economy

Taxes are necessary to keep class and economic warfare to a minimal

Taxes help keep inflation to occur. ..inflation is when EVERYTHING goes up in price…..

  14. Federal government does not need revenue

    States are revenue bound

Article one section 8 of OUR Constitution states that only Congress can Mandate spending and taxation.

We need to unlearn the LIE fed to us ALL about how OUR government needs to spend into the public purpose

Look up Dr Stephanie Kelton and #LearnMMT
