What’s next for the House after avoiding a government shutdown?

Congress passed a last-minute deal over the weekend to fund the government through Nov. 17. The temporary funding deal comes with consequences for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy — after fellow Republican Matt Gaetz filed a resolution Monday to oust him. CBS News congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane has more.

  1. It’s time to keep American dollars FOR Americans! We have plenty of people in need here to spend billions on.

  2. McCarthy will "focus on what the American people want"????????????????????????????????????
"We the [special] People . . . do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

  3. That’s like saying, “we didn’t commit mass suicide this morning; now let’s go take on the day !”

  4. So the republicans are saying they don't want to work together as a team and stab their own in the back. What a great party!

  5. I have no doubt Mr. Gaetz with make this as ugly and as partisan as he can. After all, he only has leverage when 200+ members sit on the side line.

This is not a supermajority, neither side has had one of those for some time. Yet, both sides keep behaving like they have one, each time either party wins a "majority". However, the quickest way for the majority party to gain room to maneuver, is also the quickest way for the minority party to strip power from the most extreme membership of the opposite party: Work together…

The price they pay of course, is both sides having to talk to each other and find common ground. I know, I can't fathom it either in this sad excuse for a governing body.

But it's funny how centrist & moderate policy would actually line up with the largest voting block in the US, as that would be the only policy both sides would agree to. And it would genuinely be healthy for this Nation. Working as a collective group, instead of two waring factions, is actually how Congress is supposed to act after all. So of course both Democrats and Republicans will dislike it from the onset.

As for Representative Bowman, who works as an educator. We suspend students and juveniles who pull fire alarms. One would think, that's the least a sitting member of Congress should face for the same juvenile behavior?
