Watch live: House approves spending package to avert shutdown

The House will vote Wednesday on a package of six funding bills for fiscal year 2024 in order to avert a partial government shutdown at the end of the week.

The legislation represents a compromise between the House and Senate reached Sunday, and will still have to be approved by the Senate.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) supports the package, but GOP conservatives have criticized the removal of social policy measures opposed by Democrats.

The House is expected to pass the bills, sending them on to the Senate. In the upper chamber, they face opposition from Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) because of a controversial provision on gun access.

The House vote is expected to take place after 3:30 p.m. EST.

  1. Vote all of the politicians in both parties out. They have enabled the bankrupting and invasion of America. Reset. Get rid of the criminals in office 😢😮

  2. The next time the House of Representatives threaten a shut down, their salaries and incomes should go into suspension while in breech of public trust violations.
