Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is slated to testify before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Thursday morning, regarding the 2024 Department of Homeland Security budget request.
This comes one day after the Senate voted on Wednesday to dismiss two articles of impeachment against Mayorkas, shutting down the possibility of a lengthy Senate trial, which Republicans had demanded to bring attention to the Biden administration’s record on immigration and border security.
The 2024 DHS budget includes a request for $4.7 billion for “additional resources to DHS in the event increased migration along the Southwest border exceeds pre-identified encounter thresholds,” according to Mayorkas’ testimony.
The hearing will return at 12 p.m. EDT.
