Louisville, Kentucky — On August 3, 2023, around 10:00 p.m., LMPD’s 5th Division officers received a call from a community member to respond to the 2000 block of New Main Street on a report of gunshots being fired in the neighborhood. Preliminary information reveals that a resident heard a loud pop outside. Initially, the resident was unsure if the sound was a gunshot. When the resident went outside to investigate, he saw a backpack and a laptop under his truck directly in front of his house. He then heard additional gunfire. When officers arrived on scene, they spoke to the resident and began their investigation. At approximately 10:19 p.m., officers advised they heard shots being fired towards their direction.

One officer advised that he may have been struck and felt something hit his leg. Roughly 10 minutes later, the individual fired shots near the officers on New Main Street. Additional officers on the Frankfort Avenue side of the incident began responding to the gunfire. A short time later, a subject was located in an alley and pointed a handgun at Officer Roberto Cedeno. Officer Cedeno discharged his weapon striking the subject. A loaded firearm was found in the individual’s right hand. The subject was also in possession of an additional magazine loaded with ammunition. 46-year-old male, James Monti, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at University of Louisville Hospital. Officer Cedeno has two years of service with Louisville Metro Police Department.

  1. Those are if the election was held today… aren’t they? Those 30% of voters are likely holding out for another candidate – traditional candidate or a fresh face like ramaswamy. I highly doubt 30% are nevertrumpers.

  2. This cop is an idiot. He ran with his back to a perp for a very long distance. There was plenty of cover much closer. He was very fortunate

  3. The handicap that are placed on officers in this kind of environment cannot be understated. They have very limited visual of their target as he hides in the shrubberies even with the most luminescent flashlights they can have, while the perp has full visual of them as they stand under the street lights in the open in addition to pointing their flashlights around like living targets. The only upsides was that he was a poor enough shot, as is the usual case with bad people, and fortunately dumb enough to reveal himself for a successful neutralization.

  4. 46-year-old James Monti died after the gun exchange with LMPD Officers Thursday night.

According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, multiple images of child pornography were found on Monti’s phone. The indictment included more than 60 charges for each of the images.

Detectives did not believe any of the victims in the pictures were local.

They made the discovery during a domestic violence call for which he was also charged with.

He was out of jail after posting the $25,000 bond. However, court records show he stopped going to court.

He was deemed a fugitive and was issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

  5. So, the dispatch sent an officer alone to an active shooter call? Luckily, the perp missed the first shot.

  6. Whats trick is he used his weapon light to initially identify the threat but then when engaging didn't so the suspect didnt know when to shoot and in what general direction

  7. Pro tip – when you're investigating a shots fired call, don't just stand stationary out in the open illuminating yourself.

  8. Officer really had no round chambered while looking for an active shooter, BUT he knew what to do and acted quickly. I bet that was the loudest ‘Click’ he’s ever heard.

  9. Очередной преступник доказал,что от пули не убежиш. Полиция❤❤❤
