Widespread disrespect, abuse in maternity care leave mothers with lasting trauma

Mental health is health and a critical element in overall healthcare. Mental health conditions now account for nearly a quarter of all maternal deaths in the United States. One in eight new moms experiences postpartum depression according to the Centers for Disease Control, but there is some light on the horizon as the Food & Drug Administration recently approved the first-ever pill for postpartum depression.

Postpartum depression is a health condition that can occur up to 1 year after having a baby, but most commonly starts 1-3 weeks after childbirth. It is often characterized as strong feelings of sadness and anxiety. Moms may also experience a loss of appetite, insomnia, and difficulty bonding with their baby.

  1. Video says nothing about hiw women are treated by nurses. The medical profession attracts the worst people.

  2. kind of ironic, when women the CHOICE is haavily pushed to one side. Advocate for those who are depressed during pregnancy and don't want to visit PP. Is there any wonder why some women feel unheard?

  3. 1st Reported for its Transphobic position that talks about maternity care for mothers. Fathers can give birth as well.
2nd From what I understand Pregnancy is a choice in most states (Not the Republican ones), wouldn't this be more of a personal choice why should the nation care?

  4. Pregnant women should receive greater support and something should be done about American businesses that retaliate against women that take maternity leave. The US is lacking in maternity support for women compared to other democratic/European nations that provide much more.
